If I have the room and a provider saves that expense why does she charge more for outcall?
Is it just the time involved?
the time involved driving.
the fact that she might not know the area and get lost or get into an accident
the fact that her hair might get rained on and ruin her look for the rest of the day and her customers
Sweet answer in the right direction, Wannarideher! Yes, gas prices have had an effect, even on provider incomes. But since this particular price structure seems to have been in effect for several years, I suspect it has to do with more than that. With distances being the way they are in LA, a provider who wants to do a couple of calls back-to-back at her place can actually lose out by sitting in her car, rather than taking a quick shower (let's hope so, at least) and getting ready for the next client. So to compensate for that loss, maybe only doing one call instead of two in one evening, she charges more money.
Also, many providers are downright nervous when going to an unfamiliar place. Despite good screening techniques in place, a provider never knows what might happen, or what the place will look like, etc. So the extra fee serves as a psychological self-incentive, if you will. When you end up in a messy bachelor apartment with a dirty bathroom, the extra funding might feel good. And yet, there are providers who charge less for outcall...depending on where the outcall takes place. It's a smart move to mess up the sheets in a five-star hotel rather than in one's own place, wouldn't you say?

Personally, I don't own a car. When I have a friend request my company somewhere I need to take a cab. Therefore, when asked, I do explain the little extra is for my transportation there and back. Sometimes friends have met me somewhere and picked me up to go to their place. Very thoughtful to do when it is far way however, my rate stays the same. My time is valuable either way and a real gentelman always respects that.
